Day 1: City Tour & Transfer to Ruhengeri – Volcanoes National Park
You will be picked up from your hotel in Kigali and embark on a city tour visiting Kimironko market and the genocide memorial site.
Have lunch at the historical Hôtel des Mille Collines – famous for the movie (Hotel Rwanda) and transfer to Ruhengeri – the nearest place to Volcanoes National Park found in the northern province of Rwanda arriving in the evening. Dinner and overnight at Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge.
Day 2: Mt. Karisimbi Hiking
Have breakfast, go for briefing at the park headquarters and drive to the starting point where you will begin the hike. You will trek through Bisoke and navigate your way up to Karisimbi. On a lucky day, you might even encounter the Gorillas on your hike but that’s nothing to consider at all because it is a very rare occurrence. You will overnight on the mountain close to the peak.
Day 3: Descend and Transfer to Kigali
On this day, you will ascent to the top of Karisimbi 4705m and descend back to the starting point where you will find your driver / guide waiting and transfer you back to the lodge where you will relax and enjoy the evening at leisure. Dinner and overnight at Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking – Volcanoes National Park
You will enjoy early morning breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters with your packed lunch and bottled drinking water for briefing by the park ranger guides at 7:00am. After briefing, you will start your gorilla trekking journey accompanied by the ranger guides in search of the mountain gorillas; this takes 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas.
However, the guides will try to find them from where they were last seen the previous day! You will spend 1 hour with these gentle giants and later return to your lodge to refresh and visit Iby’iwachu cultural village in the evening to experience Rwandese culture. Day 5: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Enjoy breakfast and make an early start on your 7 hour journey to Nyungwe Forest National Park with lunch en-route. You will arrive late afternoon and go for the Canopy walk in the evening. Enjoy dinner and stay overnight at Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel
Day 6: Chimpanzee Tracking.
Enjoy breakfast and go for briefing before entering the forest, searching for the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are not so easy to spot, as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimp tracking usually takes about 3 to 5 hours. You will then return to your accommodation for lunch and relax for the evening. Dinner and overnight stay at Nyungwe Top View Hill Hotel as above.
Day 7: Transfer to Akagera National Park and Ihema Boat Cruise.
Have breakfast and transfer to Akagera national park where you will arrive in time for lunch at the lodge and later embark on the afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will see game like hippopotamuses, Crocodiles and many bird species that live around the lake and the surrounding swamps. Dinner and overnight Akagera Game Lodge.
Day 8: Early Morning Game Drive and Transfer back to Kigali.
Rise up early and go for a game drive with great anticipation of seeing the different animals which rise early to graze and predators looking for their early morning kill.
After the game drive, return to the lodge to freshen up and embark on your journey back to Kigali arriving in the afternoon. Drop off at your hotel in Kigali or transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
